Do I need surfing experience?

No. Pines Surfing Academy welcomes complete beginners and teaches every student step-by-step. Whether it's your first time on a board or you're returning to the ocean after a break, our coaches will meet you exactly where you are.

What equipment do I need?

Nothing. All required surf equipment is provided, including boards and any necessary gear. Just show up ready to have fun.

Is surfing safe?

Safety is our highest priority at Pines. Every lesson includes ocean awareness education and is led by professionally trained instructors with first aid and surf rescue qualifications. We carefully select beach locations based on conditions to ensure the safest possible experience for every student.

What should I bring?

Bring swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and a positive attitude. That's all you need. We'll take care of the rest.

Where are lessons located?

Lessons operate at selected Illawarra beaches depending on surf conditions on the day. Our primary locations include North Wollongong Beach and Killalea Beach (The Farm) in Shell Cove. You'll receive location details when you book.

How long do lessons run?

Lesson duration varies by program. Check the individual program listing for full details, or contact us if you have a specific question.

What age groups do you cater for?

Pines caters for all ages — from young kids through to adults. We offer dedicated programs for children, families, adults, women, schools and corporate groups.

Can I book a private lesson?

Yes. Private coaching is available for students who want personalised instruction and faster progression. View our programs or get in touch to arrange a private session.

What if the weather is bad?

Ocean conditions can change. If a lesson needs to be rescheduled due to unsafe conditions, our team will contact you directly to arrange an alternative time.
