Surf Safety
At Pines Surfing Academy, surf safety is at the heart of everything we do. Every lesson is designed to build ocean confidence, awareness and respect for the water.
Our Safety Commitment
All Pines Surfing Academy instructors are fully qualified surf coaches with current first aid and surf rescue certifications. We conduct thorough safety briefings before every lesson and continuously monitor conditions throughout each session.
Before You Enter The Water
- Always surf at a patrolled beach between the flags
- Never surf alone — always have a buddy or instructor present
- Check surf conditions and forecasts before entering the water
- Wear appropriate sun protection — rashie, sunscreen and hat
- Stay hydrated before and after your session
How To Identify A Rip Current
Rip currents are the leading cause of surf rescues in Australia. Here's how to spot one:
- Discoloured, darker water indicating deeper channels
- Choppy, churning water surface moving away from shore
- A line of foam or debris moving seaward
- Fewer breaking waves in a particular area
If caught in a rip: stay calm, don't fight it, float and signal for help, or swim parallel to shore to escape the current.
Surf Safety For Families
When bringing children to the beach, always supervise them closely, choose patrolled beaches, and ensure they understand basic ocean safety rules before entering the water.
